Landing and Overflight Permit for Nepal

At FBO Operators, we arrange landing permits and overflight clearances for all aircraft flying to/within Nepal. We assist flight operators in following aviation rules of the country quickly and easily.

Whether your operation involves a technical stop (fuel only), passenger movement, cargo transfer, or air ambulance flight, our team makes sure that your permits are secured and compliant with the Civil Aviation Authority of Nepal (CAAN) regulations.

Understanding Permit Requirements in Nepal

All non-scheduled flights, including charter, private, ferry, and diplomatic missions are required to obtain prior approval before entering or landing in Nepal airspace.
Our experienced operations team manages every step of the flight landing permission procedure, ensuring complete accuracy and timely submission.

Permits are required for:

  1. Landing at Nepal airports such as Tribhuvan International Airport (VNKT – Kathmandu), Gautam Buddha International Airport (VNBW – Bhairahawa), and Pokhara International Airport (VNPR).
  2. Overflight clearance through the Nepal FIR.
  3. Cargo and passenger operations are permitted on arrival, departure, or both sides.
  4. Air ambulance or medevac require priority handling.
  5. Diplomatic and state flights are coordinated through official channels.

Landing Permit Requirements

Permits take 7 working days to process. In case of emergency or medical flights, landing permits can be managed within a short timeframe.

You need to share the following details and documents to apply for a Nepal landing permit:

  1. Purpose of flight and operator details
  2. Complete flight schedule, including ATS routes.
  3. Certificates: Registration, Airworthiness, and Insurance (minimum USD 60M liability)
  4. Air Operator Certificate (AOC) or operating specifications
  5. Crew licenses, medicals, and simulator training certificates
  6. Passenger or cargo manifest (depending on flight type)

Overflight Clearance

Any aircraft crossing Nepal Airspace without landing must secure overflight clearance in advance. We have partnered with an expert team to handle all communication with CAAN. It makes airspace clearance and trip support services ready before departure through the Nepal FIR.

Overflight permits are generally valid for 72 hours and are processed within 3 working days. Short-notice permit requests can also be arranged with CAA Nepal approval. For that, operators need to provide the correct route and flight time, as any change may require a new permit.

Our 24/7 operations desk can help with urgent clearances when necessary.
