VOCI Airport / COK Airport / Cochin International Airport Information

Cochin International Airport (VOCI), located at Nedumbassery about 30 km northeast of Kochi city in Kerala, is one of India’s most prominent airports. It holds the distinction of being the first airport in India developed under a public-private partnership (PPP) model, managed by Cochin International Airport Limited (CIAL). Opened in 1999, it has since become the busiest and largest airport in Kerala, serving as a major gateway for travelers from around the world, especially those from the Middle East and Southeast Asia.

The airport is also famous globally for being the world’s first fully solar-powered airport, a milestone achieved in 2015. Its massive solar power plant allows it to run entirely on renewable energy, earning it international recognition for sustainability. Cochin Airport has a single, long asphalt runway (09/27) capable of handling wide-body aircraft and features modern terminals equipped for both domestic and international passengers.

Beyond its technical and environmental achievements, Cochin International Airport plays a crucial role in Kerala’s economy, facilitating tourism, trade, and remittances from millions of expatriates working abroad. With its efficient operations, modern facilities, and eco-friendly approach, VOCI stands as a model of sustainable airport development in India and the world.
